How we install sod in Anaheim
- Strip and haul the old lawn. Dead grass, thatch and weeds leave the property. Starting clean is non-negotiable.
- Fix the soil, not just the surface. Anaheim's clay gets loosened and amended so roots can actually penetrate, then graded away from the house so water sheds right.
- Check the sprinklers first. New sod under broken coverage is money burned. If heads need adjusting we handle it before laying, through our sprinkler side.
- Lay tight, roll, water in. Staggered seams, edges trimmed to beds and walks, rolled for contact, watered the same hour. You get the two-week establishment schedule in writing.
Where sod makes sense, from West Anaheim tracts to Yorba Linda lots
- A lawn past saving. When more than half the lawn is weeds or bare clay, patching costs more than replacing. Thin-but-alive lawns do better with grass seeding.
- Selling or refreshing the front. Nothing changes curb appeal in Anaheim faster than new sod between fresh edges, and it shows in listing photos.
- Kids and dogs on real grass. Families who want cool, live grass underfoot pick sod; low-water households often pair a small sod area with rock or drought-tolerant beds, which our landscaping side designs.
- After construction or a pool build. The photo above is typical: hardscape done, then sod brings the yard back in a day.

Sod questions we get in Anaheim
What is the best month to lay sod in Anaheim?
Sod takes here almost year-round, but fall and spring are the sweet spots: warm soil, mild air, and the lawn roots in before extreme weather. Summer installs work too if the watering schedule is followed to the letter.
Can I just lay sod over dirt?
You can, and it will look good for about a month. Sod laid over unprepared ground roots poorly and dies in patches. We strip the old lawn, loosen and grade the soil, amend where clay is heavy, and then lay. The prep is most of the job and all of the result.
Is sod cheaper than artificial turf?
Up front, yes, sod costs noticeably less. Turf costs more on day one and nothing after; sod keeps its watering and mowing bill. Which wins depends on the yard and how you use it. We install both, so you get a straight answer.
How do I water new sod?
Frequently and lightly the first two weeks so it never dries, then deeper and less often to push roots down. We leave you the schedule, and if your sprinklers are not up to it we say so before we lay a single roll.
