How we do it: we walk it first and check roof lines, fences, the pool and wires; limbs come off first, then the trunk in pieces lowered on ropes where they cannot be dropped. Tight side yards in Anaheim Hills are normal for us. Brush goes through the chipper, wood is hauled, the lawn is raked. Stump grinding clears the spot for sod, planting or concrete.

I’m so glad we finally found Sunny. We were looking for an all-in-one groundskeeper for: large palm, banana, and ficus trees, hedges, sprinkler system, weeds, and mowing. Late fall through winter for most shade and fruit trees, while they are dormant and before the spring push. Palms that only need a cleanup are best done November through March, because the Orange County Agricultural Commissioner asks homeowners to avoid elective palm pruning April to October (the palm weevil). For many birds, nesting season runs February through August, so check for nests before cutting in those months. Dead or hanging limbs are an any-time job.
Size, condition, count and access set the price. A one-story front yard tree and a 40-foot eucalyptus over a roof are different days of work, and a tall dead tree between two houses takes rigging. Removal brings the tree down to a low stump. Grinding it below grade is its own step with its own machine, so stump grinding is quoted with the removal if you want the spot back. Most customers do both at once.
For most private residential trees, no. Trees in the parkway strip are the City of Anaheim's, and in the Anaheim Hills area some big oaks, peppers and sycamores need a city permit. Our Anaheim tree permit guide shows how to tell.
California generally lets you trim back to the property line, as long as the cutting does not seriously injure the tree. It is worth a conversation with the neighbor first. We make those cuts clean and correct so there is no argument later.
Fall through early spring. The tree roots in during the cool, wetter months and faces its first summer settled in. Anaheim Public Utilities' TreePower program offers free shade trees to Anaheim electric customers, and we can plant them where the shade actually hits the house.
