The Orange County Agricultural Commissioner asks homeowners to avoid elective palm pruning between April and October. The reason is the South American palm weevil: fresh cuts attract it, and the county is working to keep it from getting established here. Its favorite host is the Canary Island date palm, but the county says most palms are susceptible. So if your palm only needs a cleanup, book it for November through March. A dead frond over the roof, the pool or a walkway is a different story; that one comes down when it needs to.
Those are the signs the county lists. If you see them, call the Orange County Agricultural Commissioner at (714) 955-0100 before you call any trimmer.

No. A palm between the sidewalk and the street is a City of Anaheim street tree, and the code requires written permission from the city before anyone trims it. Ask through Anaheim Anytime or call Public Works at (714) 765-6860. Our Anaheim tree permit guide explains the rest.
By the palm and the climb. From our 2026 quotes: about $150 for each tall palm, about $80 for a single smaller palm, and a yard of 26 small palms came to $300 together. Hauling is included. Send a photo of the palms and we usually give you the price the same day.
The county lists yellowing at the topmost fronds, a crown that flattens out on top, notches in the newer fronds, holes and tunnels at the base of the fronds, and cocoons fallen near the trunk. If you see that, report it to the Orange County Agricultural Commissioner at (714) 955-0100.
